Mine is the Night by Liz Curtis Higgs Book Review/Giveaway

Mine Is the Night: A Novel

Mine Is the Night: A Novel by Liz Curtis Higgs is a sweet story of love, forgiveness and embracing God's best.  It is 1746 in Selkirk, Scotland as two penniless widows arrive to presume upon a distant relative for lodging and food.  Marjory and her daughter in law Elisabeth Kerr return to Marjory's hometown after burying their husbands.  They both look for ways to support themselves and the cousin who has graciously accepted them.  Elisabeth's talent as a seamstress takes her the to grand home of Lord Jack Buchanan who after meeting her and learning of her background as a gentlewoman turned poor, employs her for as long as he can.  Meanwhile, he is quite taken with the well bred dressmaker and they both come to care for each other even though their social ranks are worlds apart.  Lord Jack pursues marriage to Elisabeth after she presents herself to him leaving behind her mourning clothes.  But because of her previous husband's traitorous loyalties, she has to be pardoned by the king.  Will Lord Jack and Elisabeth overcome all odds to be united in marriage?

Everytime I read a Liz Curtis Higgs book I am utterly drawn to the characters and story.  After reading a few chapters of this one, I began to think my thoughts in Scottish dialect!  I love the rich descriptions of characters and setting as well as the distinct practices of the culture during that time period.  I was pleased to read about the unique parallel to the book of Ruth from the Bible.  Mine Is the Night is a beautiful saga with plenty of action and romance you won't want to miss!
