My review:
The Memory Jar by Tricia Goyer is the first book in the series Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors. Sarah Shelter is a young Amish woman living West Kootnai, Montana. After the tragic death of her best friend, Sarah's only comfort is the memory jar she has that connects her to Patty. She wonders if she can truly open her heart to anyone again. Then she meets Jathan who has come to town with other bachelors for hunting season. Sarah's delicious cupcakes in the bakery where she works delight him and she's equally intrigued with his ability to cook in the kitchen. When Jathan unexpectedly has to go home and help his family due to his father's stroke, he invites Sarah to help his mother in the bakery. Secrets start to separate them and Sarah's fancy cupcakes and different Amish ways turn Jathan's family from her. Can Sarah and Jathan overcome the odds and believe in each other to form a relationship that will stand the test of time?
This was a sweet and inspiring story of Amish perseverance and loyalty to beliefs. Sarah's talent to make delicious and fancy cupcakes gave her an edge above regular Amish ways.. Jathan's business sense gave him a hope to run a bakery with Sarah as his side doing what they both love together. I love the idea of creating a memory jar and through the flashbacks in this story I could see how the memory jar had a special place for Sarah and how she was able to move on from past memories to make new memories. This was a very low key story with a few exciting events. And I was a little disappointed there was not a recipe for Sarah's cupcakes. But this story will charm your heart as Tricia's stories always do.
*I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Litfuse Hens for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.*
