Contingency by Paula Wiseman Book Review
Bobbi Molinsky was stunned when she read the forwarded email to her husband Chuck from a woman named Tracy asking to see him again. Again? What was this? Paula Wiseman's debut novel Contingency: Book One: Covenant of Trust Series is a powerful story of a couple who experience the agony of an affair, forgiveness, healing and restoration. Chuck and Bobbi have been married for 18 years and they have 2 sons. He is a lawyer and she is a teacher. They attend church faithfully, but neither have a deep relationship with God. Chuck's unfaithfulness shatters Bobbi's trust in him and also in God. Through counseling and the support of family and friends, they immerse themselves in the process of rebuilding their marriage. However the path is not easy as they struggle with issues of guilt, fear and failure. Will Chuck and Bobbi come to a point where they can be the soul mates that God intended them to be and move beyond the infidelity?
This true to life story immediately grabbed my attention from the first sentence. Paula engages the reader in this emotionally charged plot as she exposes the vulnerability of the human race to give in to sinful desires. Couples do not intend to be unfaithful in marriage, but as this story unfolds, it shows how easily one can fall in the trap of being "satisfied" outside of marriage. This story also shows the devastation this decision had on the family as concluded by Chuck, "I can't think of anyone I haven't hurt." I was really impressed with the characters in this story and how each grew and changed. I also really liked the flashbacks that made the story complete. This story is multi-faceted and is a must read for any married couple! I look forward to reading Paula's next book Indemnity which continues Chuck and Bobbi's story.
