Summer Fit Preschool to Kindergarten: Prepare Preschoolers Mentally, Physically and Socially for Kindergarten is the perfect answer to keeping kids busy, active and current as they go throughout their summer. Summer Fit helps to "prepare children mentally, physically and socially for the grade ahead." This resource is based on national standards and is teacher recommended.
Summer Fit provides a 10 week program that includes reading, writing, math, fitness, nutrition and values. There are also additional online resources for book reports and educational games at www.summerfitlearning.com. Each week begins with an overview of what your child will learn that week academically (reading, writing, math) , physically (exercise and sports) , and socially (values). There is also an incentive contract that allows the child to a make a goal to work for. And there are boxes to check off for each day for the three areas of mind, body and values. Each day takes about 20-30 minutes and it's fun! There are a great variety of activities and so many ideas that your child will not even realize they are learning.
The SUMMER FIT workbook series aims to create fun learning experiences to help children retain and carry over knowledge from the previous school year. Additionally, by presenting a “whole body” approach with lessons and activities that focus on the body and the brain, Summer Fit helps parents and children capitalize on the mental and social benefits of physical exercise. “Summer should be a time for children to step away from their computers and televisions and exercise their brains and bodies naturally,” says series creator George Starks. “Kids should reconnect with themselves, their families and their friends on a personal level. They should be outside playing, but also brushing up on academic skills from the previous year, or those that they may find more challenging than others. They should also read and apply other classroom skills in enjoyable and entertaining ways.”
I was able to review the P-K level. I noticed that the workbook started off easy and moved to more challenging near the end, but kept a steady upward learning curve that would not frustrate your child. The activities are interesting, fun and educational. Your child will not only review reading, writing and math, but will also add fitness, nutrition and values. All the fitness ideas are easy to do, but help kids get moving. I especially like the "Just for Fun" boxes with extra activities to do like measuring things around the house. As a former teacher and now a mother, I would recommend keeping your kids fresh with learning during the summer with Summer Fit. There are workbooks available for P-5.
