Calm, Cool and Connected by Arlene Pellicane Book Review

Have you ever wanted to feel more calm and less frazzled?  Have you lost it with your husband, kids or yourself?  Do you feel disconnected with others around you even though you are "connected" on social media?  Well, Arlene Pellicane has written a new book that addresses all of these issues and more in Calm, Cool and Connected: 5 Digital Habits for a More Balanced Life.  We are only in this world for a little while, but it's important to use our time wisely.  We all desire more connection, less chaos and taking things in slow motion and enjoying life!

Arlene shares five habits that will help to create calm, cool and connectedness in your life.  She starts off her book with a quiz to see how your digital habits are affecting your life.  I was surprised to find out I was not very calm, cool or connected!  But I was very encouraged to read about the five habits.

First, Hold down the off button.  Arlene shares many statistics about our 24/7 society that never shuts down.  That is not healthy or holy!  We need times of rest from the digital world, often.  Second, Always put people first.  Yes, this habit is very abused.  We have more interest and pressing matters on our phone that pull our attention away from what is most important.  She shares a special technique called The Pivot to help in this area.  Third, Brush daily; live with a clean conscience.  Be accountable to yourself with your time, purchases and interactions.  Do they line up with God's Word and for your life? Fourth, I will go online with purpose.  Ask the question, What am I here to do?  That will help in giving you focus and efficiency.  And last, Take a hike!  Get outside and away from the digital world.  Above all, be healthy in your digital and non-digital life and you will create a good HABIT.

This book is a short read packed full of information, easy ideas to implement and plenty of good humor and is a great resource for adults to learn how to create those digital boundaries to live a happy and full life.  Each chapter begins with a Bible verse and with many more through the chapter that relate to the topic and ends with a prayer about that habit.

If you are concerned or curious about how to make good habits for your digital life, then be sure to check out this book: Calm, Cool and Connected by Arlene Pellicane.
